Background
Wimbledon's Women's Singles is the oldest and most prestigious Grand Slam on grass, held annually at the All England Club in Wimbledon, London. The 2026 edition is scheduled for 29 June to 12 July. Elena Rybakina, who won the title in 2022, has established herself as the dominant force on grass-court tennis in recent seasons. Iga Świątek, the world number one for an extended period, has historically performed below her clay-court standard at Wimbledon but remains a consistently elite competitor. The grass-court swing leading into Wimbledon — including tournaments at Birmingham, Eastbourne, and Queen's — typically provides the most recent form guide, and draw placement can significantly affect a player's route to the final.
Key factors
Grass-court specialists carry a structural advantage at Wimbledon due to the surface's low bounce and premium on serve-and-volley and flat groundstrokes. Players who peak on clay or hard courts must adapt their game more substantially. Form in the weeks before the tournament — particularly results at tune-up events on grass — can shift market concentration rapidly. Injury and withdrawal risk is elevated in the lead-up period, given the compressed grass-court calendar. Draw luck plays a measurable role: avoiding the heaviest-backed players in early rounds can extend a contender's run considerably. Additionally, weather and scheduling disruptions at Wimbledon, which relies on outdoor courts, can influence match rhythms and fatigue levels across a two-week tournament. A player's head-to-head record on grass and ability to serve at high percentages on the surface are historically strong predictors of deep runs.
