Where will Zelenskyy and Putin meet next before 2027?: how this market works

89%politicsUpdated 3 min ago

What you need to know

This market is asking a simple question: will Zelenskyy and Putin actually sit in the same room and talk before the end of 2026, and if so, where? A 'Yes' for any location means a real, in-person meeting happened there. The dominant answer, priced at 89%, is that no such meeting happens at all before 2027. The small percentages on Switzerland and the US reflect the slim chance a peace summit gets arranged in a neutral country or brokered by America. The market settles based on whether a confirmed, in-person meeting between the two leaders occurs by December 31, 2026. If it does, it resolves to whichever country hosted it. If it does not, it resolves to 'No meeting before 2027.' One notable rule: if a meeting were held in Crimea or other Ukrainian territory currently controlled by Russia, the market would count that location as Russia. Resolution is based on consensus from credible news reporting, not an official announcement from either government. None of the provided recent headlines relate directly to a Zelenskyy-Putin meeting. The news mentions Putin meeting with North Korea's foreign minister, which shows Russian diplomacy is active, but that is a very different kind of engagement. There is no reported progress toward a face-to-face summit between the two leaders. The kind of news that would matter here would be reports of direct back-channel talks or a confirmed summit invitation accepted by both sides. The core uncertainty is whether a war that has been running for years can produce the political conditions for a summit in under 18 months. These two leaders have not met since before the full-scale invasion began in 2022. A meeting would require not just a ceasefire discussion but a level of trust and diplomatic scaffolding that does not visibly exist yet. The market prices this as very unlikely at 89%, so the main open question is simply whether something unexpected breaks through, not whether two equal paths exist.
