Will Trump visit North Korea by...?: how this market works
What you need to know
This market asks one concrete question: will Donald Trump physically set foot inside North Korea before the end of 2026? A Yes means Trump actually crosses into North Korean territory, on land or by sea. A No means he never does, even if he holds meetings nearby, flies over the country, or talks to North Korean leaders from somewhere else. Flying over North Korea does not count, which is an important detail. The market settles Yes only if Trump physically enters North Korean territory by December 31, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time. The confirmation would come from official statements by Trump, his verified social media, official North Korean sources, or a clear consensus among credible news organizations. Airspace crossings are explicitly excluded. If no visit happens by that deadline, the market resolves No automatically, no matter how close diplomacy may have gotten. No recent news points directly to a Trump visit to North Korea. The headlines available mention Russia's Putin meeting with the North Korean foreign minister, which shows North Korea is engaged in some diplomacy, but with Russia, not the United States. There is no reporting of active planning for a Trump trip to Pyongyang. The kind of news that would matter here would be direct US-North Korea contact or a formal invitation. At 4%, the market treats this as very unlikely, and the main uncertainty is simply whether something unexpected breaks through. The US and North Korea have had little direct contact in recent years, North Korea is one of the most isolated countries on earth, and arranging a presidential visit would require significant diplomatic groundwork that is not publicly visible right now. The small remaining probability reflects that Trump has surprised the world before, including his 2019 Demilitarized Zone meeting with Kim Jong Un.
