Understand this market
This market asks whether the Houthi movement will physically hit or take over a commercial ship before a given deadline. A Yes means a Houthi attack actually connects with a cargo, tanker, or other commercial vessel, or Houthi fighters board and seize one by force. A No means that either no attack is attempted, or every attack is intercepted before making contact with the ship. Military ships do not count, only commercial ones.
The market settles Yes if credible news reporting confirms that a Houthi strike physically struck a commercial vessel, or that Houthi fighters forcibly boarded and took control of one, before the deadline at 11:59 PM local Arabian time on the specified date. Intercepted missiles or drones that never touch the ship do not count, even if debris causes some damage. If attribution is unclear at the deadline, the market can stay open three extra days before defaulting to No.
Recent headlines from July 23, 2026 show clear escalation. Brent crude oil hit 100 dollars a barrel for the first time since May, driven by reports of Red Sea attacks. President Trump publicly warned Iran over Houthi attacks on Saudi ships in the Red Sea, and the US signaled it would hold Iran accountable. This context suggests active Houthi targeting of shipping is already being reported, which is directly relevant to whether a qualifying strike has occurred or soon could.
The biggest uncertainty is the strict definition of success. An attack has to physically connect with a commercial ship, not just be launched or intercepted. Historically, naval defenses have stopped many Houthi strikes before impact. The three deadline variants priced at 45%, 50%, and 82% show that the market believes a hit within a month is roughly a coin toss, but becomes far more likely by August 31, simply because more time means more attempts. Ceasefire talks, US pressure on Iran, or improved ship defenses could all shift the picture quickly.

Resolution Criteria
This market will resolve to "Yes" if Houthi forces conduct a kinetic strike on or otherwise seize control of a commercial ship between market creation and the specified date 11:59 PM AST (UTC+03:00). Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". Attacks on military vessels will not be considered. Missile/drone strikes targeting a ship that are intercepted or otherwise do not directly impact the vessel will not be considered, regardless of damage through debris. Seize control refers to Houthi forces forcefully boarding and taking control of a commercial ship. Qualifying incidents include, but are not limited to, drone and missile strikes, aerial bombings, and kinetic actions carried out by Houthi operatives in person, such as seizing a ship by force. The primary resolution source for this market will be a consensus of credible reporting. If a kinetic incident occurs, but, on the specified date, 11:59 PM AST, material ambiguity remains as to whether the incident can be attributed to Houthi operatives, this market may remain open for an additional 3 calendar days, AST. If, at such time, attribution of the incident still cannot be confirmed, this market will resolve to “No”.
