Resolution Criteria
This market will resolve according to the team that wins the 2026 MLB National League West division. In the event of a tie, this market will resolve according to the official winner as determined by MLB rules. If multiple winners are announced then this market will resolve to the team whose listed nickname comes first alphabetically. If at any point it becomes impossible for a listed team to be named the 2026 National League West division champion per the rules of the MLB (e.g., they are eliminated in the playoffs), the corresponding market will resolve to “No”. If the 2026 MLB regular season is cancelled, postponed after October 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or there is otherwise no winner declared within that timeframe, this market will resolve to “Other”. The primary resolution source will be official information from Major League Baseball (https://www.mlb.com/); however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are the overwhelming favourite to win the 2026 NL West division title according to prediction market trading, with volume heavily concentrated on a single outcome. The San Diego Padres represent the only other meaningfully backed contender. Resolution follows the official 2026 MLB regular-season standings, with a deadline of 11 October 2026.
Market structure
The market covers five NL West franchises across six outcomes, with trading heavily concentrated on the Los Angeles Dodgers. The San Diego Padres account for the remaining meaningful volume, forming a two-horse race in practice. The remaining three teams — Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, and San Francisco Giants — attract negligible combined interest. Resolution is determined by the official 2026 NL West division standings as published by MLB, with a deadline of 11 October 2026.
Background
The National League West is one of baseball's most watched divisional races, historically defined by the Los Angeles Dodgers' sustained dominance. The Dodgers have won the NL West in eleven of the last twelve completed seasons, underpinned by one of the highest payrolls in the sport and a consistent pipeline of elite talent. The San Diego Padres have emerged as the division's principal challenger in recent years, investing heavily in pitching and offence. The Arizona Diamondbacks reached the 2023 World Series as a wild-card team, demonstrating the division's occasional capacity for disruption, though their market position for 2026 reflects that their core roster has not yet been assessed as a sustained division-winning threat.
Key factors
The Dodgers' ability to maintain roster health will be central — their recent World Series squads have carried significant pitching depth, but injuries to key arms or position players could compress the gap with San Diego. The Padres' rotation durability and their ability to sustain offensive production across a 162-game schedule represent the primary variable on the challenger side. Free-agent signings, trades ahead of the July deadline, and the performance of prospects promoted mid-season could all shift the competitive balance. The NL West schedule, including the frequency of head-to-head matchups between the Dodgers and Padres, historically influences final standings. Managerial decisions around bullpen deployment and roster construction in the second half of the season are further structural factors. Any extended injury absence affecting a franchise player — on either side — would be a significant resolution-relevant event.
