Market structure

This is a binary market with two outcomes: yes or no. Volume is broadly distributed, with neither outcome commanding a dominant share — the heaviest-backed outcome sits just below an even split. Resolution requires an official announcement from MicroStrategy Incorporated or Michael Saylor confirming total Bitcoin holdings equal to or exceeding one million BTC by 11:59 PM ET on 31 December 2026. The primary tracking source is the company's official purchases page at strategy.com/purchases.

Background

MicroStrategy, now rebranded as Strategy, has pursued an aggressive Bitcoin acquisition strategy since 2020, becoming the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin globally. The company has consistently expanded its holdings through equity raises, convertible note offerings, and operational cash flows. As of mid-2025, the firm holds several hundred thousand Bitcoin, making the one-million-BTC threshold a substantial multiple of its current position. The target has become a widely discussed benchmark in corporate Bitcoin adoption circles, partly because Michael Saylor has publicly outlined long-term accumulation ambitions. The question reflects broader market interest in how far institutional Bitcoin accumulation can extend within a two-year window.

Key factors

Several structural factors shape whether this threshold is reachable by December 2026. The pace of MicroStrategy's acquisitions has varied with Bitcoin's price — higher prices increase the capital required per coin while also inflating the market value of existing collateral used to raise further funds. The company's ability to issue additional equity or debt instruments depends on investor appetite, regulatory conditions, and its share price performance relative to its Bitcoin net asset value. Bitcoin's own supply dynamics matter: at current issuance rates following the April 2024 halving, exchange-available liquidity may constrain large-scale accumulation. Corporate governance considerations, including shareholder votes on share dilution required to fund purchases, represent a procedural constraint. Any material shift in US Securities and Exchange Commission guidance on corporate Bitcoin holdings or accounting treatment could also affect the pace of announced acquisitions. Finally, the resolution criterion requires only a single official announcement reaching the threshold at any point — not sustained holdings — meaning a brief crossing of one million BTC would suffice.

FAQ

How is the MicroStrategy 1 million BTC market resolved?

The market resolves Yes if MicroStrategy Incorporated or Michael Saylor officially announces total Bitcoin holdings equal to or greater than one million BTC at any point by 11:59 PM ET on 31 December 2026. The resolution source is official company announcements, with holdings trackable at strategy.com/purchases.

When does the MicroStrategy 1 million BTC prediction market resolve?

The market resolves on or before 31 December 2026, with a technical deadline of 05:00 UTC on 1 January 2027, which corresponds to 11:59 PM ET on 31 December 2026. Resolution is triggered by an official announcement at any point before that deadline.

What happens if MicroStrategy reaches 1 million BTC but later sells below that level?

The resolution criterion requires only that an official announcement confirms holdings at or above one million BTC at any point before the deadline. A subsequent reduction below one million BTC would not affect resolution — a single confirmed announcement above the threshold is sufficient for a Yes resolution.

What does the MicroStrategy 1 million BTC market currently show?

The market is broadly split, with neither outcome holding a commanding lead. The Yes outcome — that MicroStrategy will announce one million or more Bitcoin held by end of 2026 — is the heaviest-backed position, though it sits just under an even division of market volume.
