European military action against Iran by...?: how this market works

6%geopoliticsUpdated 3 min ago

What you need to know

This market is asking whether any European country will physically bomb or missile-strike Iran before the deadline. A Yes means a European military actually launches an airstrike or missile that hits Iranian soil. A No means no such attack happens, even if European countries threaten Iran, impose sanctions, or help other countries in some non-combat way. The two sub-markets track two different deadlines: July 31 (priced at 2%) and August 31 (priced at 10%). To settle as Yes, a European country from the specific list in the criteria must fire a bomb, airstrike, or surface-to-surface missile that physically hits territory inside Iran's internationally recognized borders. Many actions do NOT count: cyberattacks, naval guns, ground troops entering Iran, or a missile that gets shot down before impact. The market settles as No if the deadline passes with no confirmed qualifying strike. Attribution must be clear and confirmed by credible sources. The recent news is focused on US-Iran conflict, not European military action. Reports from July 20, 2026 describe American soldiers killed in an Iranian attack in Jordan, followed by US and Iranian strikes against each other. This shows the broader US-Iran conflict is actively escalating, which is relevant context. However, there is no news of any European country taking or planning direct military action against Iran. The main uncertainty is whether the US-Iran conflict pulls European nations in militarily. Historically, no European country has launched airstrikes on Iran, and that is a very high political and military threshold to cross. The July 31 market at 2% reflects just how unlikely the near-term scenario looks. The August 31 price at 10% reflects a modest but real chance that an escalating regional war changes the calculus. The biggest wild card is how fast and how far the current US-Iran conflict grows.
