Germany GDP growth in Q3 2026?: how this market works

24%economyUpdated 3 min ago

What you need to know

This market asks how fast Germany's economy will be growing by mid-2026, measured against the same three months one year earlier. Specifically, it asks which bracket Germany's official GDP growth rate will fall into: strong growth around 1.0-1.2%, modest growth around 0.1-0.3%, or stagnation and contraction at 0.0% or below. Think of it as a snapshot: is Germany's economy clearly growing, barely moving, or shrinking compared to where it was a year prior? This settles on October 30, 2026, using the very first official GDP figure published that day by Destatis, Germany's federal statistics office. The number they report is compared to the same quarter in 2025, adjusted for inflation. Whichever range bracket that single number falls into wins. One important detail: only the first published figure counts, even if Destatis later revises it upward or downward. If no Q3 data arrives on time, the market falls back to the most recent available quarter's data instead. None of the provided news headlines relate to the German economy or this market. No relevant recent news is available here. The kinds of developments worth watching for would be German industrial output data, eurozone-wide economic forecasts, or any major shifts in trade conditions affecting Germany's export-heavy economy. The market is genuinely split three ways, with each of the top brackets holding roughly equal odds near 23-25%. That reflects deep real uncertainty about Germany's economic direction. Germany has been struggling with weak industrial demand, high energy costs, and slowing exports, but conditions can shift meaningfully over the 12-plus months remaining. On top of that, only the first published estimate counts, and early GDP releases can differ from final revised figures, adding a layer of measurement uncertainty beyond just what the economy actually does.

How this resolves

Resolves October 30, 2026

This market will resolve according to the German GDP growth rate (% change) on the same quarter a year earlier, price adjusted, as reported in the first release of the Destatis Gross Domestic Product press release for Q3 of 2026, expected to be released on October 30, 2026. The GDP release will be made available here: https://www.destatis.de/EN/Themes/Economy/National-Accounts-Domestic-Product/_node.html If the reported value falls exactly between two brackets, then this market will resolve to the higher range bracket.
