Will Russia enter Novyi Donbas by...?: how this market works
What you need to know
This market asks whether Russian forces will take control of any part of Novyi Donbas, a specific town in Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine, before October 2026. A Yes means Russian troops physically hold at least a piece of that town. A No means Ukrainian forces have kept Russia out of it entirely through the deadline. The market settles Yes the moment a war-tracking organization called ISW shades any part of Novyi Donbas as Russian-controlled on their public map, and that shading holds through at least one full daily update cycle. It does not matter if Russia later loses the territory again. A negotiated peace deal where Russia gains actual physical control also counts, but a mere announcement does not. If ISW goes offline, a backup map or credible reporting can be used instead. None of the provided news headlines are relevant to this market. They cover unrelated topics like film reviews and cybersecurity. If you want to track this question, the developments worth watching are frontline movements in Donetsk Oblast and any ceasefire or negotiation news that could affect territorial control. At 99%, the market is treating a Yes outcome as nearly certain, so the honest framing is that almost no uncertainty remains. The slim remaining doubt covers a small set of unlikely scenarios: a sudden and durable Ukrainian counteroffensive that pushes Russia back before the deadline, a ceasefire that freezes lines before Novyi Donbas is reached, or a technical issue with the ISW map itself. The question is essentially whether the unexpected happens, not whether two plausible sides compete.
