WTI Crude Oil (WTI) closes above ___ on July 22?: how this market works
What you need to know
This market asks whether the price of WTI crude oil, the main U.S. oil benchmark, will finish above a specific dollar level at the close of trading on July 22, 2026. 'WTI' stands for West Texas Intermediate, which is basically the standard reference price for a barrel of oil in the United States. A 'Yes' means oil closed higher than the listed price that day. A 'No' means it closed at or below it. The market settles based on the official closing price of the active WTI crude oil futures contract at the end of the trading session on July 22, 2026, as recorded by a data service called Pyth. If the price is strictly above the listed number, it resolves Yes. If it equals or is below that number, it resolves No. One edge case worth knowing: if July 22 turns out not to be a trading day, the market resolves 50-50 rather than Yes or No. A headline from July 22, 2026 references a 'breakout to a new 39-year high price' in Forex Today, which appears to describe a notable price move in currency or commodity markets that day. If this refers to oil or a related market, it could be directly relevant to where WTI closed. However, the headline is ambiguous about which asset reached that high, so it is worth treating it as context rather than confirmation. At 99% odds across the $79, $80, and $81 thresholds, the market is priced as if a Yes outcome is nearly certain. The main remaining uncertainty is simply whether something unexpected happens, like a sudden sharp price drop on the day itself. With the resolution date being today, July 22, 2026, the answer is essentially already determined or very close to it. The practical uncertainty here is extremely low, not a genuine two-sided question.
