Jeanine Pirro out as D.C. U.S. Attorney by...?: how this market works

67%politicsUpdated 1 min ago

What you need to know

This market asks whether Jeanine Pirro will leave her job as the top federal prosecutor for Washington D.C. before a certain date. Pirro, a former TV host and judge, was appointed as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, which means she oversees federal criminal cases in the nation's capital. A Yes means she left the role, for any reason, by the deadline. A No means she was still in that position when the deadline passed. There are three separate deadlines with their own odds: August 6, August 31, and December 31, 2026. Each version of this market settles Yes the moment Pirro stops being D.C. U.S. Attorney, even briefly, before its specific deadline. Crucially, just an announcement of her resignation or removal is enough to trigger Yes immediately, even if she keeps working through a notice period. Being fired, resigning, or being physically prevented from doing her job all count. The source of truth is official statements from Pirro or the Department of Justice, but a clear consensus among credible news organizations can also be used to settle it. The only recent news provided involves a story about criminal charges being dropped in a case connected to the Reflecting Pool, apparently following a request from someone named Hearn. This appears to relate to the D.C. U.S. Attorney's office and how it is handling certain cases, which could signal shifts in priorities or personnel, but the connection to Pirro's tenure specifically is not clear from the headline alone. No direct news about her resignation, firing, or departure was included in the provided information. The core difficulty is that U.S. Attorney appointments are political, and turnover can happen quickly or not at all depending on White House priorities, internal conflicts, or outside events that are hard to anticipate. The market prices the chance at about 19% by early August, rising to 49% by end of August, and 68% by year end, showing that the market sees meaningful but not overwhelming likelihood of departure. The main unknowns are whether there is any friction between Pirro and her superiors, and whether any news event could accelerate or prevent a change.
