Two SpaceX Starships dock together by…?: how this market works

55%techUpdated 3 min ago

What you need to know

This market asks when SpaceX will first connect two of its giant Starship rockets to each other while both are flying in orbit around Earth. A 'Yes' means that milestone happens before the chosen date. A 'No' means it hasn't happened yet by then. Think of it like two enormous spacecraft chasing each other in orbit, locking together like a pair of train cars, and staying joined for at least a minute. To settle as Yes, two Starships must physically link up in orbit at least 100 kilometers above Earth, stay connected for at least 60 uninterrupted seconds, and both ships must have launched independently under their own power. A few things would NOT count: one ship being passively pushed into the other's connector, or a smaller capsule riding up on a separate rocket. The verdict comes from a consensus of credible news reporting, not a single official announcement. No relevant recent news was provided for this market. The kind of developments worth watching would be SpaceX completing orbital test flights of Starship, announcing plans for in-space refueling tests, or demonstrating autonomous rendezvous and proximity operations, since those are the technical stepping stones before a full docking attempt. The core challenge is that Starship-to-Starship docking has never been done, and SpaceX's timeline for orbital milestones has historically shifted. The market currently prices the by-2027 version at about 51%, essentially a coin flip, and the by-2026 version at only 8%. The genuine unknowns include how quickly Starship reaches routine orbital operations, how complex autonomous docking proves to be at this scale, and whether regulatory or technical setbacks push timelines back further than expected.
