US-Saudi nuclear deal enters into force in 2026?: how this market works

12%politicsUpdated just now

What you need to know

This market asks whether a formal nuclear cooperation treaty between the United States and Saudi Arabia will become fully active law before the end of 2026. A 'Section 123 agreement' is the specific type of treaty the U.S. uses to allow sharing of civilian nuclear technology, things like reactor designs and fuel, with another country. Yes means the deal is signed, approved, and legally in force. No means it either was not signed in time or did not clear all the required legal steps before December 31, 2026. For this to resolve Yes, the agreement must not just be signed but actually 'enter into force,' meaning it has completed every legal step required on both sides and is officially operative. Signing a deal and a deal entering into force are two different things. Under U.S. law, a Section 123 agreement typically must go through a congressional review period before it can take effect. The deadline is December 31, 2026, and the outcome will be confirmed by credible news reporting, not a single official source. A significant development just happened: multiple credible outlets reported on July 23, 2026 that the U.S. and Saudi Arabia signed a nuclear cooperation deal. This matters because a signing is a major step forward. However, signing is not the same as entering into force, which is what this market specifically requires. The key question now is whether the remaining legal steps, including any required U.S. congressional review, can be completed before December 31, 2026. The core uncertainty is the gap between signing and entering into force. U.S. law requires Congress to receive and review a Section 123 agreement, typically for 90 days, before it can take effect. Whether that clock can run out before year-end 2026 is genuinely unclear. Political opposition, noted in reports of Israeli concern, could also complicate or slow ratification. The market sits at 11% Yes, meaning participants currently see the full legal process completing this year as unlikely, though the recent signing does make it more possible than before.
