Will Russia capture all of Bilytske by...?: how this market works

53%geopoliticsUpdated 7 min ago

What you need to know

This market asks a simple battlefield question: will Russian forces take full control of Bilytske, a small town in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, before the end of 2026? A Yes means Russia occupies the entire town. A No means Ukraine still holds some or all of it when the deadline passes. Bilytske sits in an area of eastern Ukraine where ground fighting has been ongoing, so this is essentially asking how far Russian advances will reach in this specific location. The market settles Yes if a war-tracking organization called ISW (Institute for the Study of War) colors the entire Bilytske municipality red on their official Ukraine map by 11:59 PM ET on December 31, 2026. That red shading must hold through at least one full daily update cycle, so a brief or mistaken marking does not count. One important edge case: if a peace deal gives Russia actual physical control of Bilytske, that also counts as Yes, even without the ISW map update. But a deal that only promises future control on paper does not count. The provided news headlines do not contain any information specifically about Bilytske or nearby front-line activity in Donetsk. One headline mentions a Russian strike near Kyiv in late July 2026, which signals the broader war is still active, but gives no direct clues about this town's situation. To follow this market, the most relevant things to watch would be ISW daily map updates covering the Donetsk front line near the coordinates listed. The market is almost evenly split, with Yes at 53%, which honestly reflects how genuinely uncertain this is. Ground combat in eastern Ukraine can stall for months or shift quickly depending on troop movements, ammunition supply, weather, and any ceasefire talks. The deadline is December 31, 2026, still months away, which adds significant uncertainty since conditions can change dramatically. The specific size and shape of the municipality also matters: Russia might control most of Bilytske but not every corner, and partial control resolves as No.
