NATO/EU troops fighting in Ukraine by...?: how this market works
What you need to know
This market asks whether soldiers from a NATO or EU country will openly fight in Ukraine, as part of the war with Russia, before the end of 2026. A Yes means official troops from a country like France, Germany, Poland, or any other NATO or EU member are publicly confirmed to be in Ukraine doing something combat-related: firing weapons, piloting attack drones, or shooting down missiles. A No means that never happens officially, even if Western countries keep sending money, weapons, or trainers. The market settles Yes only if two things are both true: the soldiers are officially recognized as active military by their home country, and NATO, the EU, or that country publicly confirms they entered Ukraine for a combat purpose. Training Ukrainians does not count. Intelligence support does not count. Only direct combat roles count, such as pilots attacking targets or soldiers defending Ukrainian airspace. The deadline is December 31, 2026. If no such official acknowledgment happens by then, it resolves No. None of the news provided is relevant to this market. The headlines relate to military operations in Nigeria and India, not to NATO, the EU, or Ukraine. There is no recent news here to draw from. The kind of development that would actually matter is any official statement from a NATO or EU government announcing combat deployment to Ukraine. The market prices this at around 10%, meaning most participants currently see it as unlikely. The main honest uncertainty is whether some dramatic shift in the war, like a major Russian advance or a ceasefire collapse, could push a Western country to cross a line that all NATO members have carefully avoided so far. The criteria are also strict: unofficial involvement or unacknowledged presence would not count. The core question is whether the strong political resistance in Western capitals to direct combat involvement holds for another 18 months.
