Will Russia capture all of Huliaipole by...?: how this market works
What you need to know
This market asks whether Russian forces will take full control of Huliaipole, a small city in southeastern Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region, before the end of September 2026. Yes means Russia controls every part of the city's municipal area. No means Ukrainian forces still hold any portion of it when the deadline arrives. The market settles Yes only if the entire Huliaipole municipality is colored red on the ISW conflict map, a daily-updated tracker used by analysts worldwide, by September 30, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time. That red shading must hold through at least one full daily update cycle, so a brief flash of red that disappears overnight does not count. One important edge case: if Russia gains control through a peace deal rather than battlefield capture, that still counts as Yes, but only once actual boots-on-the-ground control is established, not just when a deal is announced. None of the provided news headlines relate directly to Huliaipole or fighting in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. There is no relevant recent news to point to here. The kind of updates that would matter are ISW map changes near Huliaipole, Ukrainian or Russian military reports about the Zaporizhzhia front line, or any ceasefire or negotiation developments. The market prices this at 71%, meaning participants lean toward Yes but are far from certain. The core difficulty is that urban battles in Ukraine have repeatedly stalled or reversed unexpectedly, and front-line movement is hard to forecast months in advance. A ceasefire or peace negotiation could freeze lines before the deadline. Ukrainian reinforcements, seasonal weather slowing advances, or simply determined defense could delay any capture past September 30. The deadline is the key variable: the same outcome just one day late still resolves No.
