Will the U.S. invade Greenland in 2026?: how this market works
What you need to know
This market asks whether the U.S. military will physically invade Greenland before the end of 2026. A Yes means American forces launch a military operation to seize or control some part of Greenland's land. A No means that does not happen, regardless of how much political tension or rhetoric exists around the topic. Talk, threats, diplomatic pressure, or economic moves would not count. Only an actual military offensive does. The market settles Yes only if credible news outlets collectively confirm that the U.S. military has begun an offensive operation aimed at taking control of Greenland territory before December 31, 2026. The key word is 'offensive': a pre-existing U.S. base operating normally would not count. It must be a new military action intended to establish control. If nothing like that happens, the market resolves No by default at the deadline. No specific recent news was provided for this market. The topic worth watching, if you want to follow it, would be any shift in U.S. military posture toward the Arctic, formal statements from the U.S. or Danish governments about Greenland's status, or any unusual troop or naval movements in the region. The market prices this at around 3%, so the main uncertainty is simply whether something highly unexpected occurs, not a genuine coin-toss debate. An actual military invasion of a NATO ally's territory would be historically unprecedented in the modern era and would carry enormous legal, diplomatic, and military consequences. The small remaining probability reflects the fact that no future event is completely impossible, not that serious analysts consider this a realistic near-term scenario.
