Lee Jae-myung arrested before 2027?
What you need to know
This market asks whether Lee Jae-myung — the leader of South Korea's main opposition party, the Democratic Party of Korea — will be physically arrested or detained by the end of 2026. A Yes means law enforcement actually takes him into custody; a No means that doesn't happen, even if he faces legal charges or investigations in the meantime. It is specifically about a real, physical arrest — not just legal proceedings against him. The market settles Yes only if Lee is physically taken into custody before December 31, 2026 — that includes being handcuffed, booked, surrendering to police, or placed under house arrest or electronic monitoring. Simply having an arrest warrant issued against him, or being questioned by prosecutors without arrest, does not count as Yes. The deadline is December 31, 2026, at 11:59 PM Eastern Time. Official government or law enforcement confirmation is the primary source, but credible news reporting can also be used. No specific recent news was provided for this market. In general, the kind of developments worth watching would be: new arrest warrants being sought by prosecutors, South Korean court rulings on existing charges against Lee, or major shifts in his political status — such as winning or losing an election — that could affect his legal exposure or immunity. The market prices this at around 10%, meaning it currently leans heavily toward No. The main remaining uncertainty is simply whether something unexpected changes that trajectory — such as a new legal development or a shift in political circumstances in South Korea. Lee has faced ongoing legal cases, so the situation is not static. But given the strong lean, this is less a coin-flip question and more about whether a low-probability event occurs before the deadline.
