Will Russia capture all of Chasiv Yar by...?: how this market works
What you need to know
This market asks whether Russian forces will fully take over the town of Chasiv Yar, a small city in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk region, by a specific date. A Yes means Russia controls every part of the town. A No means Ukraine still holds at least some portion of it by the deadline. There are two versions of this question with different deadlines: one ending September 30, 2025, and one ending December 31, 2026, which is why you see two different odds. The market settles Yes if a specific conflict-tracking map, published by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), shows the entire Chasiv Yar municipality shaded red, meaning under Russian control, before the deadline. That shading must hold through at least one full daily update cycle, so a brief or glitchy marking does not count. If peace talks give Russia actual physical control of the town, that also counts as Yes. A signed agreement alone, without real boots on the ground, does not count. The provided news headlines do not contain any direct reporting about the battle for Chasiv Yar itself. The headlines touch on broader US-Russia-Iran diplomacy and US weapons stockpiles, which are part of the wider context of the war but do not tell us specifically what is happening on the ground in Chasiv Yar right now. To track this question closely, you would want to watch ISW daily updates or frontline reporting focused on Donetsk. Urban warfare is slow and hard to predict, even when one side is advancing. Russian forces have been pushing toward Chasiv Yar for a long time, and the market prices full capture by end of 2026 at 68%, while the earlier September 2025 deadline sits at 44%. The main sources of uncertainty are the pace of fighting street by street, whether Ukraine receives new military support, and whether any ceasefire or negotiation interrupts or reshapes the situation entirely. The gap between the two deadlines shows how much timing alone changes the picture.
