Will Russia capture Orikhiv by...?: how this market works
What you need to know
This market asks whether Russian forces will physically take control of the train station in Orikhiv, a small city in southern Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region, by a specific date. A Yes means Russian troops are on the ground holding that station. A No means Ukraine still controls it when the deadline arrives. There are two deadlines with separate odds: September 30, 2026 (priced at 5%) and December 31, 2026 (priced at 9%), so the market is really asking how soon, if at all, this happens. The market settles Yes if a specific map, published daily by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW, a US-based conflict research group), shows the train station icon shaded red to indicate Russian control. That shading must hold through at least one full daily update cycle, so a brief or glitchy coloring does not count. One important edge case: if Russia gains the station through a peace deal rather than battlefield advance, that also counts as Yes, but only once actual physical control is established, not merely announced. If the red shading never appears by 11:59 PM ET on the deadline date, the market resolves No. The provided news headlines do not contain any reporting directly relevant to the military situation in Orikhiv or Zaporizhzhia Oblast. To track this market meaningfully, the key things to watch would be daily ISW map updates showing front-line movement near Orikhiv, and any broader ceasefire or negotiation developments that could affect territorial control. The market prices this quite low, at 5% by September and 9% by December, meaning participants collectively see Russian capture as unlikely within this window. The main honest uncertainty is simply whether something unexpected breaks through. Orikhiv has been under pressure but urban fighting is slow and unpredictable. A ceasefire or negotiated deal could flip the outcome in either direction. The ISW map itself adds a procedural layer: shading must persist across updates, so even a brief incursion would not be enough.
