Will Ukraine target Moscow by...?: how this market works
What you need to know
This market asks whether Ukraine will launch a significant aerial or missile attack directly targeting Moscow before August 14, 2026. A Yes means Ukraine sends drones, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, or air-launched weapons into Moscow's city boundaries. A No means that does not happen by the deadline. Small consumer-style drones, artillery, cyberattacks, and ground raids do not count, so the bar is a real, large-scale strike directed at Russia's capital city. The market settles Yes if a credible consensus of sources confirms Ukraine launched a qualifying strike at any location within the federal city of Moscow before August 14, 2026, Moscow time. The strike counts even if all munitions are intercepted in the air, as long as they were aimed at Moscow. Disputes between conflicting reports get up to three calendar days to sort out before a decision is made based on available evidence. Small drones and short-range munitions are explicitly excluded, so the type of weapon matters. The one news item provided is about a Ukrainian military law enforcement probe into an assault regiment, which does not appear directly connected to strike operations against Moscow. There is no relevant recent news provided here. The kind of developments worth watching for would be reports of long-range drone or missile campaigns, ceasefire negotiations, or changes in Western weapons supply that could affect Ukraine's ability to reach Moscow. The market is priced at 83% for Yes by August 14, meaning participants currently see this as more likely than not, but not certain. The main honest uncertainty is simply whether the unexpected happens. Ukraine has conducted long-range drone campaigns before, but Moscow's air defenses are dense. Attribution of strikes can also be contested, and the resolution criteria require a credible consensus, not just one report. A ceasefire or political shift could also change the picture before the deadline.
